Record Label Logo

SKETCHES COMPLETED BY ALL MEMBERS

QUESTIONNAIRE COMPLETED BY MYSELF & ROSIE

We each designed and created our own logo for our music record label in order to obtain audience feedback on what kind of thing they would expect to represent an indie-pop band. After creating 3 logos, we discussed our likes and dislikes within the group, before devising a questionnaire written by myself and Rosie to give out to 10 participants. The results are shown below.

Question 1 asked for a logo preference. 6 out of the 10 participants chose logo 1, whilst the remaining 4 chose logo 2. We were pleased with this result as we had already discussed that logo 1 was the most suitable our record label genre.

Question 2 asked what the participant liked about their preferred logo opposed to the other two options. Those that chose logo 1 gave responses such as it was clean and professional looking. Those that chose logo 2 stated that is appeared more simplistic and recognisable than the others. Again, we were happy with the results, as we wanted a logo that appeared simplistic in order to obtain professionalism and infer deeper meaning.

Question 3 asked for colour scheme preferences. The options were black & white, black & light blue, or multicoloured. The results came in as follows:

Black & White - 7

Black & Light Blue - 2

Multicoloured - 1

We were surprised that some of the participants chose black and light blue and multicoloured as we already had in mind that we wanted black and white to withhold the professionalism seen in the logo. However fortunately, the majority still chose black and white, with a total of 7 out of 10.

The final question asked participants to state what type of music they would expect the record label to produce based on their chosen logo. The majority stated the logo would be fitted to an indie genre, whether it was combined with pop and rock as an addition or not. Some reasons given were that the simplicity of the logo suggested deeper hidden meanings, and the idea that a crystal is unique, therefore represents the originality and rawness of indie music.

"After deliberating our audience feedback, I took to Corel Draw (a graphic design software) to create the final design. I stuck true to Rosies original design with the black and white image, diamond, text and circle. Originally the text was rigidly placed in the centre of the banner and looked static. I therefore manipulated the text to fit the path of the banner and we were happy with the outcome. The type writer like font is a convention we discovered for the indie pop genre as it looks retro, laid-back and minimal." - Phoebe Wright
