Back Cover
COMPLETED BY ROSIE AND I
Our chosen image for the back cover of our digipak is shown on the Digipak Photo Editing page. Rosie and I experimented with different fonts, colours, layouts etc however considered the opinions of our target audience to be the best way to distinguish the correct design for the back cover of our digipak in order to produce a product that would successfully appeal to the target audience. Using the software programme Corel Photo Paint we narrowed our choices down to three colours, three fonts, and three layouts. Rosie and I then produced questionnaires to give to 10 volunteers from our target audience. Rosie gathered the results and created pie charts to allow us to analyse the feedback and identify the favourite designs amongst our target audience. The examples and feedback from each question are shown below.
FONTS

Font 1
Font 2
Font 3
As shown, the majority of our target audience chose font 1 as their favourite style. All fonts are sans serif however originally we decided that fonts 1 and 2 were the our favourite choices as the handwritten style compliments the fun, arty creativity presented throughout the digipak. We are pleased with the audience's response and will be going ahead with a font of this style for our final digipak.
COLOURS

White
Pink
Blue
The feedback on colours was variated. When designing the back cover Rosie and I experimented with black font however found that it looked really out of place with the bright colours on the image, and wasn't very clear to see, therefore for our final three choices to propose to our target audience we chose white and a faded 'ombre' effect of baby pink and baby blue; both of which suited well with the bright vintage colours presented throughout the digipak. The feedback was fairly balanced, however white font was in the lead by 10% of our target audience. The group is happy with the results as although the pink and blue colours tied in well with the theme, I worried that it would remove the professionalism within the digipak. White was also the colour that stood out the best on the imagery used. The question allowed suggestions for other colours; one participant suggested yellow, so we plan to experiment with this before finalising our choice.
LAYOUTS

The final question's purpose was to endeavour where the audience thought the best place for the track list would be on the back cover. Only 20% of the responders chose top left, whilst bottom left and bottom right were chosen by an equal 40% of the target audience. I think the decisions are suitable as I found that the text got lost within the lighting and colour of the balloons if placed in the top left corner. We will experiment with the layout to identify where the most suitable placing for the track list is, whilst considering other elements such as the barcode, record company, and taking into account the audience's line of vision.
FINAL BACK
This is the first draft of the back cover, attempted by Phoebe. As decided by our target audience, the font used is sans serif and in a handwritten informal style. The white of the font really compliments the colours of the imagery, however unfortunately is lost due to the colours of the hedge and the balloons behind it. We decided not to go with this draft, as we felt the font was not the best that it could be and not really the exact same style as the one selected by the target audience. Also the placing of the track list goes against what was chosen by the target audience, which is not professional as their opinion is what guarantees their satisfaction which is of great importance. A spelling mistake was also picked up on which needed to be corrected in order to keep up with the professionalism presented throughout our project. Therefore Rosie and I created a second draft. Rather than using fonts from the editing software used, Corel Photo Paint, we researched into online fonts and found that there was a much bigger and better variety. We finalised our decision on a handwritten informal font, chosen from '1001 Fonts'. We also chose to comply with the audience feedback and place the track list in the bottom right hand corner. I was much happier with this layout, as it prevented the font from getting lost within the image, whilst still complying with the audience's line of vision. We also rearranged the layout of the barcode, record company information, and record label logo. The layout looks much more organised, professional and aesthetically pleasing. I plan to create a questionnaire in order to guarantee audience satisfaction and ensure that our target think the right changes have been made.
First Draft

Second Draft

I devised a questionnaire of which I gave out to a mix of male and female media and non-media students in order to identify which design they prefer. I analysed the results and created a video to summarise the feedback, as shown below. I'm really happy that we decided to re-design the back cover, as we have produced a much stronger design that the target audience are happy with.
